One of the reasons that I started the Saving Mealtime blog was my boys. Whether it was finding easy recipes on those crazy busy days, saving recipes that the boys loved and asked for over and over again, or spending quality time in the kitchen with them, my boys were the inspiration behind Saving Mealtime.
When spending time with the boys in the kitchen there is often a flour cloud, a broken egg on the floor, or the occasional child that leaves with dirty hands to run to the bathroom touching the walls and light switches all the way there. That aside it is always pleasurable and I love that time with my boys.
This quote from Joe Bastianich expresses my feelings exactly - "Cooking for my family is always a pleasure when I'm able to do it. my favorite thing to make is really whatever my kids ask for on any given day. It's more about being with them and doing something together."
I truly believe that cooking with your children can be such a great experience for them and full of all kinds of lessons. Guy Fieri said it best, "Cooking with kids is not just about ingredients, recipes and cooking. It's about harnessing imagination, empowerment, and creativity."
More wisdom from Guy - " Cooking is all about people. Food is maybe the only universal thing that really has the power to bring everyone together." I love the time I get to spend with my boys in the kitchen. They're learning an important life skill and we get to spend quality time together.
"Encourage and inspire little chefs so they can become the best chef they can be when they grow up." Don't you agree? Teach them to make there family meals and maybe even the same meals you made them.
This quote about cooking with children speaks to me greatly. "Teaching little ones how to cook requires a ton of patience but the rewards are great." I'm loving the time I share with the boys in the kitchen and while sometimes it tests my patience, I know they are learning a skill they will keep with them forever. That's truly invaluable.
Mario Batali says "The kitchen really is the castle itself. This is where we spend our happiest moments and where we find the joy of being a family." You've heard it so many times, that the kitchen is the heart of the home. This is where ALL of the good stuff happens.
The kitchen is definitely where all of the good stuff happens. The best memories that I have with my family are those in the kitchen. "In the childhood memories of every good cook, there's a large kitchen, a warm stove, a simmering pot, and a mom." - Barbara Costikyan
I am such a believer in making memories in the kitchen with my boys and passing my passion for cooking down to them. I know they're learning skills that they'll keep with them forever and memories that they (and myself) will cherish forever.
"Cooking is an important part of good, stable family life. I like to get the family together; there's a huge nurturing element in it."
"... no one is born a great cook, one learns by doing." - Julia Child
What is your favorite cooking quote? I would love to know.
